The Symposium
The annual Advances in Business Research symposium will be held Wednesday, October 27, 2010, and Thursday, October 28, 2010. The symposium is sponsored by the College of Business, University of Arkansas - Fort Smith, and will be held at the Fort Smith Convention Center, 55 South 7th St., Fort Smith, Arkansas 72901. Academicians, practitioners, and experts in the areas of business administration, entrepreneurship, and leadership are invited to submit manuscripts to be considered for presentations before faculty, staff, students and non-academic professionals.
Purpose
The symposium provides a forum for exchanging ideas about, identifying emerging trends in, learning new approaches to, and examining issues about the various disciplines of business administration, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Faculty
Anyone interested in the following areas should attend: Business administration; leadership issues; accounting; management; marketing, advertising and sales; finance; economics; entrepreneurship; family and small business enterprises; business information systems (MIS); business education; business law; business ethics; international business; human resource management; operations management; research/statistics; organizational behavior and theory; organizational development; strategic management policy; technology/innovation; pedagogy; e-commerce; health care administration; non-profit organizations; public administration, business and organizational communication, case studies related to business, decision sciences, taxes, teaching (all areas of business), and cross-disciplinary areas of business with other areas are also encouraged.
Non-Academic Professionals
This symposium is designed to offer non-academic professionals, i.e., corporate executives and managers, entrepreneurs, leaders of not-for-profit organizations, and the like an opportunity to increase their awareness about the world of business. This symposium will provide a unique opportunity for these participants to network with peers and other professionals.
Doctoral Students
The symposium welcomes participation of doctoral students as session presenters, reviewers, or attendees. Doctoral students in any related discipline will find the symposium very stimulating and enlightening. The Symposium registration fee for doctoral students is $100.00.

Research Papers
Completed research papers in any of the topic areas listed above.
Abstracts
Abstracts of completed or proposed research in any of the topic areas listed above, or related areas. The abstract for proposed research should include the research objectives, proposed methodology, and a discussion of expected outcomes.
Student Papers
Research done by students in any of the topic areas listed above or related areas.
Case Studies
Case studies in any of the topic areas listed above or related areas.
Work-in-Progress or Proposals for Future Research
Incomplete research or ideas for future research in order to generate discussion and feedback in any of the topic areas listed above or related areas.
Reports on Issues Related to Teaching
Reports related to innovative instruction techniques or research related to teaching in any of the topic areas listed above, or related areas.
Publications
All submissions accepted for and presented at advances in business research symposium will be published. The best 30%-40% of those submitted will be published in Advances in Business Research Journal. The remainder will be published in Advances in Business Research Proceedings.
Advances in Business Research (ABR)
It is a research journal that provides a forum for current thoughts, techniques, theories, issues, trends, and innovations in the business administration, entrepreneurship, leadership, and other related fields as listed above. All manuscripts submitted to this journal will be subject to a double-blind peer review process. All manuscripts submitted should be original and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. The journal requires that manuscripts follow the style and format outlined in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. The journal will be listed in Cabell Directories (electronic version). Journal issue number will be ISSN: 2153-6511. Please see journal submission guidelines below.

MANUSCRIPT GUIDELINES/COMMENTS
Format
· Manuscripts should be typed on a standard size paper (8.5 by 11) and should not exceed 25 pages, including references, appendixes, tables, and figures.
· The manuscript must use Microsoft Word and should be typed in a 12-point font. It must be double spaced (excluding references, appendixes, tables, and figures). All margins are one inch.
· Main headings should be centered and typed in all capitals. Example: INTRODUCTION.
· Secondary headings should be typed flush with the left margin and in small letters, with major words beginning with capitals. Example: Learning Models.
· Tables, figures, and graphs should be included where they are discussed. Do not include notations like: (insert table 1 about here).
· Do not paginate within the manuscript.
· Do not use footnotes in your manuscript.
· Citations should be made in the text by enclosing the cited author's name and the year of the work cited in parentheses. Example: Several studies (Johnson, 2003; Smith, 2006; Green, 2007) support this finding.
· Direct quotations must give a page number(s); these follow the date of publication and are separated from it by a colon. Example: Johnson indicated that writing is a difficult process (2005: 6).
· Periodical reference example: Johnson, C. (2006). The art of writing. Academy of Management Journal 32(1), 112-125.
· Book reference example: Johnson, C. (2006). The art of writing, New York: Macmillan.
· Chapter in a book example: Green, J.T., Brown, J.O., & Watson, D.A. (1999). Contemporary issues and new directions in higher development. In L.W. White (Ed.), Aging in America (pp 234-278). Washington, DC: American Psychological Association.
· The title page should include the title of the manuscript and appropriate contact information (authors' names, affiliations, complete address, contact phone numbers, and e-mail addresses).
· The second page should repeat the title of the manuscript and a brief (not to exceed 100 words) abstract. Excluding title page, the manuscript should not contain the name of the author or any affiliation that would allow the reviewer to determine authorship.

· Accepted ethical standards have been applied in the research and/or preparation of the manuscript submitted for publication.
· Authors have obtained appropriate permissions so that the publication of the manuscript would not violate any copyright or other personal or proprietary rights of others.
· Publication decisions are based on the recommendations of the journal's editorial board. Submissions are typically assigned to three reviewers for consideration.
